The Trees Have Eyes
After spending countless hours in the wild, I’ve developed a finely tuned sense of my surroundings: an almost bat-like sonar that alerts me to unusual photographic opportunities, no matter how well camouflaged they may be (well, except for the few times I’ve almost stepped on rattlesnakes). Truthfully, on this morning I knew that these young great horned owls were out there–I’d been watching their nest for a few weeks–I just had to find them. I almost walked right by them, perched shoulder to shoulder in this tree. When I did see them I quickly composed this shot and only had time for 5 or 6 exposures before they took wing.
