Sunflowers For Isabelle
As I was leaving Sunset Crater (north of Flagstaff) after Labor Day weekend, the thunderstorms that had drenched the area began to clear out. This field of wild sunflowers is located at the entrance of the park, at the base of the Sunset Crater cinder cone. The shot faces the opposite direction, toward the San Francisco Peaks, which are almost completely obscured by the storm clouds. The pine trees on the edge of the praerie show the damage from The Schultz Fire, which burned 15075 acres of the national forest around the San Francisco Peaks this past summer. The fire was ignited by an abandoned campfire.
